Back to School with Books!
Do you have one of the most important back to school supplies you can get for your children? Your Heyworth Public Library card! Your library card provides free access to books available in public libraries affiliated with the state of IL from our online catalog, plus two eBook databases, downloadable audiobooks, free downloadable music you keep forever, cake pans, patron computers, and so much more. We truly are larger than our walls.
NEWLY ADDED! The Axis 360’s database from the eRead Illinois/axisReader eBook grant is live and available to HPLD card holders. The new app (axisReader) is making this experience much easier. There is also a website to use too for use on computers, laptops, and devices that do not use apps. Download axisReader from the iTunes or Android market place. (website: http://heylib.axis360.baker-taylor.com/)
The app and website are fairly intuitive, and each will request an Adobe account email and password to begin your eRead journey from this new database. (You may need to look that up before you download and login if you have signed up for an Adobe account on the device before.) Once in the app you will login to the Heyworth Public Library with your card and pin number. It will also ask you to join the BLIO and Acoustik accounts/apps (free). These two services will read the book to you if you want an audiobook like experience, but are not optional to the eRead Illinois services. The choice to have the book read to you is optional.
There are MANY more children’s books and adult nonfiction available through eRead Illinois/axisReader. Still quite a few publishers will not sell eBooks to libraries, so you may find that you cannot access all your favorite authors and titles on either OverDrive or eRead Illinois/axisReader. This is an ongoing issue of digital control of books between publishers and libraries.
As always if you would like a tutorial on any of our digital services, please call the library and make an appointment (473-2313). You can also visit our website at heyworthlibrary.com for help sheets to configure your device as well for OverDrive, axisReader, or Freegal. The state of IL provided the eRead Illinois/axisReader service through grants from the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) and our local library service provider, the Resource Sharing Alliance (RSA). The Illinois Secretary of State and Illinois State Library awarded a $985,219 grant to the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) and the Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) for the “E-books for Illinois” Program, named eRead Illinois. Happy Reading.
