OverDrive offers our Heyworth Public Library card holders the only global eBook club: Big Library Read! Big Library Read is coming October 13-28 with the book title: Anatomy of a Misfit by Andrea Portesuser. This eBook and downloadable audiobook club is offered several times throughout the year. Big Library Read provides Heyworth Public Library free simultaneous access to a selected title that any reader with a Heyworth Library card can instantly start reading without holds or waitlists on October 13-28, 2014.  Mark your calendars and get your free OverDrive app set up on your smart device, and more importantly get your Heyworth Public Library card if you haven’t received yours today!

New this fall are Anime Movie Saturdays held every 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:30 a.m. Make plans to join us on Saturday, October 18th. Teens at our Anime art class this summer expressed interest in the library holding Anime Movies. So help us spread the word. Due to our movie license all movie titles are posted in the library, but cannot be advertised outside the library. This program is free and we encourage Anime movie goers to bring their own snack and drinks with screw cap lids.

Heyworth History Club meeting date change!  We will now meet in the library on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. This month we meet October 22, but in November due to holidays we will meet November 19, and in December we will not meet. Help the Heyworth History Club by answering a one question survey on the library website, the library Facebook page, or stop in and fill out a paper survey.  We are seeking input on future research projects that would interest the community.

An encore presentation of last month’s Heyworth History Symposium: One Room School Houses of Randolph Township will be shown on October 21 at 6 p.m. in the library’s community room. This PowerPoint presentation shares the history of the schools, pictures of those who attended, and video and audio of past students. You can also checkout a print copy of this presentation.  A DVD copy of the oral history interviews are available to loan with your library card as well. Please call the library at 473-2313 to reserve your seat today.

Monday Night Book Club is still going and growing!  We meet on the fourth Monday of each month. We are always seeking new readers to join us. Get a copy of A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman at the library and make plans to attend October 27 at 6:30 p.m.

Trick or Treat at the library on October 30 from 5 – 8 p.m.  Come before, after, or during the Heyworth Halloween Parade!

Items we collect for our community:

  • Coupons for military families overseas
  • Gently used Hornet Shirts/Sweatshirts and gear
  • Box Tops for Education coupons
  • Coca-Cola Caps
  • HP ink cartridges

Items we are collecting for upcoming craft projects at the library:

  • Cereal Boxes – empty, clean, and not crushed
  • Pop can tabs
  • Fabric/Satin type Ribbon (all sizes)
  • Jute
  • Curling ribbon

Family Story time, Thursday evenings at 6:15 p.m. (45 minute program)

October 9 – October 23:  Plan now to join us for a stories and a craft.  This evening is geared for pre-school – first grade, however the whole family is welcome to join in on the fun.

Friday Afterschool movies, 3:20 p.m. every Friday the library is open during the school year.

Knitting for Beginners, 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month, 6:30 pm -7:30 pm. We are thrilled to offer

beginning knitting this fall!

October 20, November 3 and 17:  6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Please bring:

  • 1 skein of your favorite color worsted weight wool or wool blend yarn.
  • 1 pair of needles: short, single-point, 8-10 inches long, plastic or wood, size 8, 9 or 10.
  • If you would like to wait until you pick your first project during the first class, we will have donated needles and yarn to use.

Must sign up to attend due to limited space.  Available to anyone 4th grade and up.
