Children age 3 – 6th grade may continue to read to earn the basic summer prize packet through August 31. We reserve the right to substitute prizes if prizes run out. We have had 92 kids finish summer reading so far this year with over 65 adults and kids winning prizes in our reading raffles. So go ahead and finish those reading hours and return your completed book marks before the end of August.
We could not do our fun summer reading prizes without the help from the community. Thank you to our local sponsors for our great selection of prizes: Dowers Auto Sales, Our Little Backyard Farm, Huck’s, Perfectly Posh by Stacy Morger, Heyworth Subway, Farmer Scott, IGA – Heyworth, Pit Row, and Country Mist Apple Orchard. Plus so much more from surrounding area businesses!
Fall Programming
Adult Book Club will begin September 7. The club will meet at the library at 6:30 pm. No library card necessary, but it is handy to reserve a book, audiobook, or eBook with a library card. The August book selection is The Second Mrs. Hockaday by Susan Rivers. Sign up is encouraged so we can plan reserving titles and space. If this time and day do not work – PLEASE let us know that you are interested and what day and time would work. Coffee and tea provided, bring your favorite mug.
Heyworth Knitters returns on new days beginning on September 14. They will meet the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at 6:30 pm. Anyone with an interest in knitting is welcome, including those seeking to learn the craft of knitting. Please sign up if you are wanting to learn. The Heyworth Knitters will have a simple project, yarn, and needles all ready. Fourth graders on up are welcome to participate. Seasoned knitters are encouraged to bring a project and enjoy the company. Are you stumped by a pattern? Bring those questions too. This group also works on charity projects and this year will be knitting mittens. Coffee and tea provided, bring your favorite mug.
3rd — 5th Grade Afterschool Book Club will begin on September 28. A new adventure each 4th Thursday of the month. We will meet in the Community Room after school at 3:30 pm to read, discuss, and do activities based on the selected book. The first title for Sept. 28 is The Puzzler’s Mansion, by Eric Berlin. We will follow up on October 26 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J. K. Rowling. Are you interested in a book club, but not these titles? Let us know. Participants will get to select titles after the New Year. Not everyone will like a book club title, which is the fun of the discussion to hear why others liked or did not like a book. So stop by the library and pick up your copy to begin reading this fun adventure.
Little Bricks & Big Ideas is a Lego building group that will begin on September 20. We encourage kids from Kindergarten – 8th grade to join in this hour of the building. Our 6th — 8th graders are the model builders who help our younger apprentices along the way. So plan to join us at the library on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 3:30 pm. Snacks are provided.
Friday Afterschool Movies will begin on September 1 at 3:20 pm. Bring a friend and your own treat & screw cap covered drink. No juice pouches, please. A list of movies to be shown can be picked up in the library.
Fall Family Storytime will begin September 14 at 6:15 pm. Storytime is geared for pre-school through first grade; however, the whole family is welcome to join in on the fun. Come explore, participate in art, and enjoy stories. (September 14 – October 19)
