March 2023 Programs

HPLD Spice Club is in full swing! Pick up a different spice each month along with a pamphlet of facts, recipes, and more. Registration is not required. Supplies will be limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. March’s spice is poppy seeds.

Arts & Crafts for school-aged children is offered on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Registration is required.

Beginner Chess is held at the library on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6:00 p.m.  Registration is required.  This class will become a chess club in April.

Book Clubs:

  • Adventure Book Club,for 4th – 6th graders, meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m.  Join us for a fun book discussion and related activities.  The selection for March is Across the Desert by Dusti Bowling. Books are available at the circulation desk for checkout.  Registration requested.
  • Books, Tea, and Conversation is a book club for adults that meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The selection for April 6 is West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. Books are available at the circulation desk for checkout. 

Cross-Stitch Craft Night will be Tuesday, March 28, at 6 p.m. Teens and adults are invited to join us for a night of cross-stitch crafting. All levels of ability are encouraged to attend. Supplies will be provided. Registration is required.

DIY Storytime is always available during opening hours at the library. Premade kits make having your own story time fun and easy. Request a DIY Storytime bag at the front desk, find a quiet spot, and enjoy the books and activities provided.

Family Storytime is back on Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. Spring Storytime runs through March 23. Registration is required.

Friday Morning Coffee is offered weekly in the Community Room at 10 a.m. Adults are welcome to meet for coffee, conversation, and games.

Illinois Libraries Present – Danny Trejo Talks Tacos, Hollywood, and Redemption on Tuesday, April 4, at 7 p.m. These online events are free and open to the public, but registration is required.  To register, visit the programs page on heyworthlibrary.com.

Little Bricks & Big Ideas is a Lego building group that meets on the second Wednesday of each month. Children, kindergarten – 6th grade, are invited to join us for an hour of creative building.  Registration is required.

Senior Information and Assistance is provided by Community Care Systems of McLean County at the library on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 10:00 a.m. – noon. They are next scheduled to be at the library on March 22. They assist people over the age of 60 and those with special needs with filing for local, state, and federal programs. CCSI, Senior Information Systems Agency for McLean County, can also be reached by calling 309-661-6400. Walk-ins are accepted as time permits.

Why Knot Knit is a group for all levels of knitters and will meet each Monday at 3:15 p.m. Volunteer instructors will be on hand to teach beginners and lend a helping hand to those wanting to improve their skills. Supplies will be provided.
