History Mystery Photo #1 The Heyworth Public Library holds in it’s archive this picture of a group of youth we think dates back to 1920 – 1925? Some of the youth are wearing sashes with the names of Heyworth area businesses. We know this from our newspaper indexing project that is currently in progess in the same time period. The name Della Van Valey is inscribed on the back of the group photo. This picture will be on display at the library for anyone to come and get a better look. We would love to have more information about who is in this picture, where it was taken, and why it was taken?

History Mystery Photo #2 This second photo goes with the group photo #1. The four ladies can be found in the group picture #1. One girl is wearing a Columbia hat, with the girl next to her (on the right) wearing a banner that reads: Battershell. The other two ladies have unique costumes as well. There are four names on the back of the picture: Alma Washburn Downs, Bess Groves Streepe (telephone operations), Pearl Battershell Cusey, and Della Van Valey Van Ardshant (spelling may not be correctly deciphered). This picture will also be on display at the Heyworth Library, and any information to help the Heyworth History Club correctly record this historical moment in Heyworth History would be welcome.

History Mystery Photo #3 The Heyworth Public Library holds in it’s archive this picture of a group photo from the Adrian School of Randolph Township from May 1895. Sam Sutter of Heyworth donated this to our archives this past December 2013. He knows that his grandpa is in this group picture. We are looking to identify other individuals in this picture to further document the information. This picture will be on display at the library for anyone to come in and get a better look. We would love to have more information about who is in this picture and why it was taken?

History Mystery Photo #5 The Heyworth Public Library holds in it’s archive this picture of a man in a three wheeled vehicle on Main St. in Heyworth, circa 1957 (according to the digital file name. It was submitted as a digital photo with the file marked as Roseman, 1957. If anyone can give us any clues to this mystery picture, we would be very interested in learning more about the person and vehicle, and to know what was going on in the picture in 1957.

History Mystery Photo #6 The Heyworth Public Library holds in its archive this picture of a Heyworth High School basketball team from 1919. We thought this would be fun to look at after the amazing game last week of our current boys basketball team. We don’t think the shoes look all that comfortable, nor the knee-pads all that helpful compared to today’s standards. If anyone can give any information about this team or if you hold a yearbook from this year, we would be very interested in learning more.

History Mystery Photo #7 The Heyworth Public Library holds in it’s archive this picture from the Heyworth Centennial Celebration play. These women are seated quilting as part of an act in the play. We are wanting to know the identities of these ladies. If anyone can give any information as to who they are, we would be very interested in learning more.

History Mystery Photo #8 In 1928 the General Federated Woman entered and won The Cleanest Town in IL (based on size/population) for the Village of Heyworth. The Village of Heyworth also won this award in 1929 and 1930 through the efforts of the GFWC. If you know any more details of this event, or the people sitting for the picture we would love to know more information. All three trophies are on display in the front case of the library until the end of April, along with a 1914 plat map of Randolph Township. The trophies are on loan from the Village of Heyworth.

History Mystery Photo #11. During Bi-centennial celebrations this picture was taken of Maurita Cusey with these students. We are wanting to know who these children are in the picture. It is from a parade connected with the Heyworth Community Recreation Association that was organized around 1948. The picture was taken in Heyworth, c. 1948. If anyone has information as to who the girls parading their doll buggies may be, we would love more information. Or do you know what business is in the background? What was its name, who was the owner, and if it was a store – what did it sell? Please let the library know any clues you can uncover for us. 473-2313.

History Mystery Photo #16. Over 100 years ago, Heyworth watched highschool football on Thanksgiving Day. “The Hudson foot ball team and Heyworth team will have a game at Heyworth on Thanksgiving day.” This news note appeared in The Heyworth Natural Gas on November 23, 1911. We know the picture shown is o the 1911 Heyworth H.S. team. Do you know the names of any of the team members? The name of the coach? Or the outcome of the game?
