With the growing trend toward using electronic devices such as the Nook and MP3 players, Heyworth Public Library will expand its services in January with the addition of downloadable audio books and eBooks. Library card holders can check out, download, and enjoy digital books anytime, anywhere, and at no cost by visiting HPL’s website.
To check out items, users will need a valid library card, personal computer, internet connection, and the Overdrive Media Console (free software available on the site). Once downloaded, digital titles can be listened to on the computer or transferred to a reader.
At the end of the 14 day lending period, titles will automatically expire and are returned to the collection. There are never late fees or damaged items.
This program is called the Alliance Digital Media Library. HPL is one of over 40 public libraries in central Illinois which offer the service.
